The Slope Stability 2026 Symposium (SS2026) Was Announced at EXPOMIN
Luis Tejada, president of the Lima SS2026 organizing committee, announced that professionals from around the world will gather from October 26 to 29 of next year to discuss best practices related to open-pit slope stability.
Lima, April 29, 2025– EXPOMIN, a mining trade fair held in Chile, hosted the international launch of the Slope Stability 2026 Symposium (SS2026), one of the world’s most important mining slope events. This event will take place in Peru for the first time, from October 26 to 29 next year.
During the panel discussion "AI in Operational Geotechnics," Luis Tejada, president of the Lima SS2026 organizing committee, announced that the symposium on mining slopes will be held at the Lima Convention Center in the San Borja district. The event is organized by the Large Open Pit Project (LOP) and supported in Peru by the Peruvian Society of Geoengineering and the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP).
“The global copper industry is concentrated in Peru and Chile. Therefore, in the context of current prices, the challenges of achieving faster, more efficient, and deeper mining are forcing Peru and Chile to share resources to ensure safety, efficiency, and sustainability. The professionals, consultants, contractors, and suppliers are the same in both countries. Hence, the Chilean delegation at the SS2026 should be one of the largest. In fact, three members of our organizing committee are Chilean professionals working in the region,” Tejada emphasized.
He also highlighted that, unlike previous editions, the Lima symposium will feature a new four-day program combining technical papers with keynote speakers and highly impactful short courses on geotechnics and hydrogeology for mining operations. Tejada reminded attendees that all the information is available on the event’s website: https://www.slopestability2026.com/en
Promotion in Lima
During the 2nd International Groundwater Congress, held at the NOS PUCP Theater, Luis Tejada also announced the launch of the mining slopes symposium, which will bring together professionals from around the world to discuss best practices in open-pit slope stability.
In his keynote speech on the current challenges in geotechnical engineering applied to large-scale mining, Tejada highlighted Lima’s advantages as the host city.
“Lima is one of South America’s leading capitals and is well-prepared to welcome all SS2026 delegates thanks to its excellent logistics and tourism infrastructure. As the capital of republican Peru, Lima showcases our country’s immense multi-commodity potential and rich mining tradition, which dates back to the ancient Peruvians,” said Tejada.
