Slope Stability Will Hold a Technical Session in Arequipa on Slope Stability and Risk Management.
The event will offer an opportunity for academic enrichment, featuring presentations by international experts and a tribute to a distinguished figure in Peruvian geology.

Lima, December 11, 2025. This Monday, December 15, the Slope Stability Pre-Symposium will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the William Jenks Auditorium of the School of Geology, Geophysics and Mining at the Universidad Nacional de San Agustín de Arequipa (UNSA), the Organizing Committee of the upcoming international Slope Stability 2026 (SS2026) congress announced.
The event is aimed at the academic, professional, and student community interested in slope stability and related topics.
The program will begin with an introduction by Jorge Dueñas, academic advisory director at UNSA and member of the Slope Stability 2026 Organizing Committee, followed by welcome remarks from Luis Tejada Cervantes, president of Slope Stability 2026.
Key Presentations
The academic program will feature two high-level presentations: “Technology at the Service of Risk Management in Mining,” by Marco Pacheco, managing director of Clonsa Ingeniería Chile; and “Key Hydrogeological Aspects in Slope Stability,” by Lizardo Huamaní and Eduardo Ruiz, Amphos 21’s Water Solutions director and general manager respectively.
During the event, a tribute will be paid to Dr. Pablo Rubén Meza Aréstegui, a distinguished professor at UNSA’s School of Geology, Geophysics and Mining. Meza is a geological engineer with a master’s degree in Geotechnics and a PhD in Geography, and a specialist in Geomorphology. His extensive career spans Geotechnics, Rock and Soil Mechanics, Hydrogeology, Structural Geology, Geotourism, Geomaterials, Geomatics, and geological risk assessment, along with a notable teaching career at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as publications in Peru and abroad.
The Slope Stability Pre-Symposium seeks to strengthen ties between academia and industry, promoting the exchange of knowledge and key insights for risk management in mining engineering and related fields.
Slope Stability, one of the world’s leading events on mining slopes, is organized by the Large Open Pit Project (LOP) and supported in Peru by the Peruvian Society of Geoengineering and the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP).
