The Large Open Pit (LOP) is an industry-sponsored international research and technology transfer initiative launched in April 2005 to address the industry-wide need to improve understanding of rock slope failure in open-pit mines.

With 81 years of history, the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP) has established itself as a technical and proactive leader for the development of mining in Peru. It works on key areas such as knowledge generation, talent development, and the promotion of best practices through innovation and technology.

The Peruvian Society of Geoengineering (SPEG) is a non-profit organization whose primary objective is to foster national and international collaboration through the study and advancement of geoengineering sciences. SPEG facilitates the exchange of ideas and information in the fields of geological, mechanical, and soil and rock engineering, as well as related specialties dedicated to surface and underground construction.
The International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM) is a non-profit scientific organization dedicated to promoting the study and application of rock mechanics. The ISRM encourages international collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the advancement of the discipline through publications, conferences, and the development of standards for rock testing.
