Slope Stability 2026y Calls for young researchers to participate in its poster contest

Lima, October 21, 2025. The Organizing Committee announced that registration for the research poster contest for young geotechnicians will open on Saturday, November 1. The contest aims to promote innovation, enhance visibility, and foster professional development within the framework of the international congress Slope Stability 2026 (SS2026).

The contest seeks to foster innovation and the exchange of knowledge in slope stability. It provides undergraduate students with a passion for geotechnics a platform to present their research and creative solutions, engage with industry experts, and showcase their proposals to the international geotechnical community.

“The poster contest aims to provide students and young graduates with an opportunity to showcase their research and applied solutions in the geotechnical field. It is primarily targeted at university students and recent graduates who are passionate about geotechnics and mining and who seek visibility, technical feedback, and connections with professionals in the sector,” said Luis Tejada Arata, Director of the SS2026 Young Geotechnicians Program.

For this first edition, Tejada Arata noted that the contest is expected to receive between 60 and 80 abstracts from different countries, primarily from Peru and other Latin American nations.

“We estimate that approximately 40% of participants will be women,” he said. “From the total submissions, between 20 and 25 papers will be selected for the in-person presentation stage, from which five finalists will be chosen to present their research during the main session of Young Geotechnicians Program at Slope Stability 2026.

Participation Guidelines

Tejada Arata explained that registration is free and individual, and is open to university students and recent graduates within one year of graduation. All required documents must be submitted via email to programslopestability2026@speg.org.pe no later than March 15, 2026.

The abstract for the research poster must be submitted in both English and Spanish. Upon acceptance, authors will be required to provide a draft and a final version of their paper. The winning entry will be presented in person during the main session of the Young Geotechnicians Program, which will take place as part of Slope Stability 2026 (SS2026) at the Lima Convention Center, in the district of San Borja, from October 26 to 29, 2026.

To ensure transparency, standardized evaluation rubrics will be applied across all three phases of the contest.

The contest will focus on the following eight thematic areas:

·        Artificial Intelligence

·        Geotechnics

·        Slope Stability

·        Hydrogeology

·        Slope Monitoring

·        Mine Closure

·        Design Optimization

·        Geotechnical Risks

Slope Stability, one of the world’s most important mining slope events, is organized by the Large Open Pit Project (LOP) and supported in Peru by the Peruvian Society of Geoengineering and the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP).
