Slope Stability 2026: Women Take the Spotlight, Authoring 30% of Submitted Technical Abstracts

Lima, December 17, 2025. Women’s participation in the geotechnical field marks a milestone at the international Slope Stability 2026 congress, with professional women authoring 30% of the technical abstracts submitted. This is according to Gina Pachao, director of the Women Geotechnicians Program, an initiative being launched for the first time at this major international event.

Women’s Presence

In total, the organizing committee received 600 technical abstracts, 440 submitted by men and 160 by women, reflecting significant progress in the inclusion and visibility of female talent in disciplines traditionally dominated by men.

“Slope Stability and the Women Geotechnicians Program aim to showcase the technical contributions of women professionals, foster collaboration networks, and encourage greater female participation in future scientific and technical events,” Pachao noted.

The technical papers cover a wide range of key topics in the geotechnical and mining industries, including geotechnical design, slope monitoring, numerical modeling, geotechnical risk management, blasting, hydrogeology, case studies, and the development of disruptive technologies, such as the application of artificial intelligence to slope stability.

International Abstracts

The proposals were submitted from more than 30 countries, with strong representation from Peru, Brazil, Canada, Chile, the United States, and Australia, positioning Slope Stability 2026 as a global hub for technical and scientific exchange.

Pachao noted that the participating professionals represent a wide range of specialties, including geological engineering, geotechnical engineering, metallurgical engineering, civil engineering, mining engineering, and geotechnical geology, highlighting the diversity of perspectives and experience that enrich the congress’s technical program.

Slope Stability 2026 is emerging as a key event not only for its high technical standards, but also for its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and strengthening women’s leadership in geotechnics at the international level.
