Slope Stability 2026 will focus the debate on slope safety and stability in open-pit mining
Luis Tejada Cervantes, president of the Organizing Committee, highlighted the role of Slope Stability 2026, which will take place in Lima, Peru, in October, at the outstanding MINEXCHANGE 2026 event of the SME.

Lima, February 24, 2026.- The international congress Slope Stability 2026 (SS2026) will be the main meeting point to discuss and share best practices related to slope stability in open-pit mining, said Luis Tejada Cervantes, president of the Organizing Committee, during his participation in the annual conference and exhibition MINEXCHANGE 2026. which takes place in the United States, organized by the Society of Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME).
Tejada stressed that Slope Stability 2026 will bring together specialists, researchers, mining operators, consultants and technology providers from around the world with the aim of promoting technical discussion and knowledge exchange around geotechnical, hydrogeological, structural and blast control best practices applied to open-pit excavations.
"The permanent challenge of the mining industry is to guarantee safe, efficient and sustainable operations. Slope Stability 2026 will be a key space to analyze technological advances, share case studies and strengthen the management of risks associated with slope stability," said the geotechnical engineer.
In order to promote international collaboration, the international congress, which is held every two years, presented its program at MINEXCHANGE 2026, which will include keynote lectures, presentation of academic papers, technical sessions, short courses and field visits to mining companies in Peru and networking spaces between professionals in the sector. Likewise, the participation of young professionals and students will be promoted, encouraging the development of new generations of specialists in mining geotechnics.
The presence of Slope Stability 2026 in one of the most relevant events in the mining sector worldwide reinforces its position as a high-level technical forum, aimed at strengthening operational safety and innovation in open-pit mining.
The spokesperson of the Organizing Committee reiterated his invitation to the international mining community to actively join this meeting, which will seek to consolidate itself as a reference platform for technical discussion and exchange of experiences in slope stability. Also present at the event were Luis Claudio Tejada Álvarez, vice president of the Organizing Committee and Luis Tejada Arata, leader of the committee of Young Geotechnicians for mining.
