Slope Stability 2026: The Importance of Rockfall Modeling in Different Mine Levels Will Be Analyzed in A Webinar
This is used in the mining industry to assess risks and adopt preventive measures to ensure worker safety and mine stability.

Lima, August 21, 2025. The Geotechnical Women's Committee is organizing the webinar “Rockfall Modeling in Pits of Different Mine Levels” as part of Slope Stability 2026, one of the world's most important mining slope events, which will be held for the first time in Peru in 2026.
In open-pit mining, a major risk related to slope instability is rockfall, which is considered a common and potentially hazardous geotechnical event during mining operations at various levels, posing a threat to the safety of workers, equipment, and the continuity of production.
In this context, it is crucial to model rockfalls to apply controls in a timely and effective manner. To discuss this topic in more detail, Elizabeth Tasilla, general supervisor of Geotechnical Engineering at Cerro Corona de Gold Fields, will give a presentation. Carolina Samudio, a wall control engineer at Cobre Panamá, First Quantum Minerals, will moderate the event.
Ms. Tasilla holds a degree in Geological Engineering from the National University of Cajamarca and a master's degree in Mining Geotechnics from the University of Oviedo, Spain. She has over 12 years of experience in the open-pit mining industry, where she leads geotechnical assessments for geometric pit designs optimization for both phased development and the entire Life-of-Mine (LOM).
She also has expertise in the design and construction of tailings dams. Ms. Tasilla supervises all operational work on various mine components, such as the pit, waste rock dumps, and the tailings dam. She is also familiar with the use of laser scanning, radars, and InSAR, among others.
SS2026
Slope Stability 2026 is organized by the Large Open Pit Project (LOP) and supported in Peru by the Peruvian Society of Geoengineering and the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP).
The webinar will take place on Friday, August 29, at 7:00 p.m., and will be available on Slope Stability’s official YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram accounts. To view it via the Zoom platform, you can register at: https://bit.ly/4fMixeM.
