Slope Stability 2026 Strengthens the Importance of Slope Stability in PERUMIN 37
The Organizing Committee stated that the tenth edition of Slope Stability expects to bring together professionals, women, and young people from countries such as Peru, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Panama, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Spain, and Portugal.

Lima, October 02, 2025.- To promote the discussion and exchange of knowledge of the best geotechnical, hydrogeological, structural, and blast control practices related to the stability of open-pit excavations in the mining industry, the International Slope Stability 2026 Symposium was present at PERUMIN 37, the leading mining convention in Latin America and the world.
Luis Tejada Arata, co-president of the SS2026 Organizing Committee, along with Pedro Isique, also a member of the organization, presented one of the most important mining slope competitions in the world, at the stand 1090 located in Pavilion 6 at the Cerro Juli Convention Center.
Slope Stability, organized by the Large Open Pit Project (LOP) and supported in Peru by the Peruvian Geoengineering Society and by the IIMP, will be held in the country from October 26 to 29, 2026, at the Lima Convention Center, in the San Borja district.
In Arequipa, Tejada pointed out that the international event will hold a university contest, which seeks to promote the technical development and creativity of future geotechnicians.
"Through this contest, we seek the participation of undergraduate students in the analysis and resolution of geotechnical and hydrogeological challenges applied to mining, promoting critical thinking, innovation, and collaborative work from the classroom to the professional world," said Tejada.
Meanwhile, Isique pointed out that SS 2026 will implement the Women Geotechnicians Program, which aims to establish connections and enhance female participation in the field of geotechnics.
"The stability of slopes is essential to guarantee safe, sustainable, and efficient mining operations, especially in a country like Peru, with a complex geography and a large open-pit mining activity. The knowledge and correct application of geotechnical and hydrogeological principles allow robust geotechnical management, boost productivity in the mining business in general,” Isique commented.
