Lima, June 19, 2025. The Slope Stability 2026 Symposium (SS2026) expects to receive more than 1,000 abstracts, many of which will be presented by our female professionals, said Gina Pachao, director of the Women Geotechnicians program that will be held for the first time within the framework of the event.

The Slope Stability Symposium, organized by the Large Open Pit Project (LOP) and supported in Peru by the Peruvian Society of Geoengineering and the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP), is one of the most important mining slope events worldwide. It will be held in Peru for the first time next year at the Lima Convention Center in the San Borja district from October 26 to 29.

The call for technical papers in the previous edition exceeded expectations. Pachao pointed out that Slope Stability 2026 offers a window to obtain international recognition and global exposure and recalled that the deadline for the receipt of abstracts is July 15.

"More than 200 women are expected to gather at the Women Geotechnicians event. Undoubtedly, there are no limits of age, position, or nationality for the exchange of knowledge; what we are really looking for is to learn, establish connections, and enhance our careers in the Geotechnics field.”

Pachao pointed out that women’s participation in geotechnical engineering is increasing in the country. Given this reality, the Women Geotechnicians program has organized a webinar on June 20.

“This webinar will be given by Marisol Valerio, senior Rock Mechanics Engineer at WSP, who will share her knowledge and experiences. Our goal is to provide a space where women can transmit their knowledge, contribute to the advancement of the sector, and excel in their profession," she said.

Pachao mentioned that this event has aroused the interest of numerous women, so they will reinforce their commitment to continue promoting equal opportunities for all and making female leadership visible in Geotechnics.

"One of our main challenges will be to strengthen and consolidate a network that allows women geotechnicians to connect, share experiences, and enhance their professional development, in addition to the fact that, together, we can promote significant changes and continue to raise the level of excellence in our sector," she concluded.
